Wayne State Softball Limited To Four Hits In 6-0, 8-0 Losses To #3 Vikings

WAYNE – Following a 23-day break of competition, the Wayne State College softball team returned to the diamond as they opened their NSIC schedule with a ranked opponent.

From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, WSC hosted #3 Augustana University Tuesday afternoon.

The Vikings posted a pair of shutout road victories of 6-0 and 8-0 (five innings) to improve to 14-2 (2-0 NSIC) while WSC fell to 3-11 (0-2 NSIC).

During the opening game, Augie scored single runs in the first and second inning to lead 2-0. The Vikings then poured in three more runs during the fifth and one run in the sixth to shutout WSC, 6-0.

Ashley Hernandez and Riley Holmberg both produced a single at the lone hits for WSC.

Sloan Cooksey (0-5) suffered the loss in two innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while walking one batter. Maddie Moser worked five innings allowing four runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out five batters, walking two and hitting one.

From the second game, Augie scored single runs in the first and second innings before adding two more in the third to lead 4-0. The Vikings then scored five runs in the fifth to win 8-0.

Kim Vidlak and Madison Gomez each recorded the lone singles of the game for the ‘Cats.

Sloan Cooksey (0-6) suffered the loss in five complete innings allowing eight runs (four earned) off seven hits while striking out two batters, walking two and hitting one.

The Wayne State College softball team will next visit Minnesota Duluth on Friday, April 2 at 1/3 p.m. and travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota to face the Huskies on Saturday, April 3 at 1/3 p.m.
