Wayne State Rugby Back In The Spotlight Of NCR Final Four Competition  

WAYNE – Both Wayne State College rugby programs recently punched their ticket to the Final Four.

According to a release from Wayne State Rugby, the WSC men will be joining their women’s team heading to Houston, Texas for the Final Four of Rugby 15s.

In St. Louis, Missouri on November 19, the Wildcat men won 43-10 over Franciscan followed by a 44-10 victory against Slippery Rock on November 20.

The men’s Small College National Championships will be held in Houston, Texas on Friday, December 9 and Sunday, December 11.

The most recent win moves Wayne State College men’s rugby and women’s rugby to the top-ranked teams in the nation for both programs.

Earlier in the month in Wayne, the Wayne State College women’s rugby team defeated Texas San Antonio, 48-10 on November 12.

The women’s Division II National Championships will take place in Houston, Texas on Saturday and Sunday, December 3-4.

The Wayne State College women’s rugby team will open with Marquette on Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m. Wisconsin Eau Claire and Roger Williams are the other women’s regional qualifiers and will square off at 4 p.m. next Saturday. The third place match will be at 11 a.m. on December 4 followed by the DII Championship outing at noon.

The WSC men’s semifinal will be on December 9 against Catholic University out of Washington, DC at 4 p.m. California Poly Humboldt and Endicott will be on the other side of the Final Four bracket in the men’s division playing at noon on December 9. The third place match will be held on Sunday, December 11 at 9 a.m. with by the Small College Cohen Cup Championship match at 1 p.m.
