Wayne State Men’s, Women’s Basketball Set For Sunday January 2 NSIC South Division Road Showdown With Travel Partner

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Following a two-week break from league action, the Wayne State College men’s and women’s basketball teams will return to competition with a Sunday afternoon road doubleheader.

From the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, WSC will compete with their travel partner of the South Division for the second time this season of Augustana University.

The men’s contest will be played first at 3:30 p.m. followed by the women’s game around 5:30 p.m.

The Wildcat men have records of 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC South Division while Augustana 10-2 and 4-2 in league play.

Wayne State College closed out their pre-holiday schedule with an 88-76 road loss to then #24 Upper Iowa (now ranked 13th) on December 18 after having their road game with Winona State considered a no-contest due to COVID-19 protocols for the Warriors.

The Augie men are receiving votes just outside the top 25 and also last lost to Upper Iowa on December 17 in a top 25 showdown of 84-65 when the Vikings were ranked #23.

In the first meeting this season played on November 23rd in Wayne, WSC edged then ranked #13 Augustana 63-59.

For the Wayne State women, WSC is 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC South Division entering Sunday’s matchup against Augustana, 6-5 and 2-5 in the NSIC South.

The two teams met earlier this season (November 23) in Wayne with Wayne State prevailing 73-61. WSC is coming off an NSIC road split (L Winona State 74-69, W Upper Iowa 65-61) while the Vikings have won three straight games including a non-conference victory over Dakota Wesleyan of 91-67 on December 20.
