Wayne State Men Erase Double-Digit Halftime Deficit To Finish 2-0 In Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Following a slow start to Saturday evening’s men’s basketball game, Wayne State College concluded the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic Tournament with their second game.

From the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, WSC took on the host Eckerd College.

Eckerd took control early and led 48-32 at the break. Wayne State College then picked up momentum in the second half outscoring Eckerd, 57-39. Final favored WSC, 89-87 as the ‘Cats are now 6-1 on the season handing Eckerd their first loss at 3-1.

Fifth-year senior Jordan Janssen (9-14 FG/7-8 FT) posted a team-high 25 points to go along with five rebounds, an assist, a block and two steals while sophomore Justin Eagins (6-14 FG/3-7 3PT/3-4 FT) added 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Other double figure scoring came from fifth-year senior Nate Mohr (4-11 FG/4-6 3PT/5-6 FT) with 17 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal as sophomore Cody McCullough recorded a double-double (2-7 FG/8-10 FT) with 12 points and 12 rebounds as well as an assist and two steals.

Fifth-year senior Nick Ferrarini (one rebound) tallied eight points, sophomore Jay Saunders (six rebounds/three assists/one steal) had six points and freshman David Harmon (one rebound) had three points.

WSC shot 27-64 (42.2%) from the field, 9-20 (45%) from behind the arc and 26-32 (81.3%) from the foul line.

 

Eckerd leaders were Daniel Love with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal; Carr Thiam added 20 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block as Mekhi Perry added 16 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Eckerd finished 35-60 (58.3%) from the floor, 5-15 (33.3%) from the three-point line and 12-13 (92.3%) at the charity stripe.

The Wayne State College men’s basketball team returns to NSIC play and will visit Sioux Falls on Thursday, December 1. The men’s game will be the second game around 7:30 p.m. with the women’s game played first at 5:30 p.m. Pregame show coverage on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com will be set for 5 p.m.
