Wayne State Men Drop Out Of Final Regional Rankings

WAYNE – Selection Sunday gave the Wayne State College men’s basketball team a chance to come together to await a possible postseason berth.

From Gardner Hall on the campus of Wayne State College Sunday night the Wayne State men didn’t see their school on the screen and were edged by #8 Minnesota State-Mankato for the final spot in the NCAA Division II Central Region Ranking.

The 2019 Central Region men’s basketball tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 and Tuesday, March 19. The top region team and host will be Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri.

WSC ended the 2018-19 campaign with their best season in 20 years going 21-10 overall and earning a share of the NSIC South Title.

#1 Northwest Missouri State (MIAA champion) vs. #8 Minnesota State-Mankato (NSIC at-large)

#4 St. Cloud State (NSIC at-large) vs. #5 Southern Nazarene (GAC champion)

#2 Northern State (NSIC champion) vs. #7 Southeastern Oklahoma (GAC runner-up/at-large)

#3 Washburn (MIAA runner-up/at-large) vs. #6 Missouri Southern (MIAA at-large)

 

 

Central Region Women’s matchups: Region games Friday and Saturday, March 15 – 16 and Monday, March 18. The NCAA Women’s Basketball Elite 8 will take place on March 26-27, 29 at the Alumni Hall in Columbus, Ohio.
