Wayne State Cross Country Teams Post Top Two NCAA DII GPA’s, Women #1

WAYNE –The #1 and #2 spots respectively among the NCAA Division II Cross Country All-Academic teams went to the Wayne State College women and men.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, the WSC women received the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) All-Academic Team Award along with the men. The Wildcat women posted the top grade point average in NCAA Division II during the 2021 season with a cumulative grade point average of 3.859 and the Wayne State men recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.705 for the 2021 season to rank second-best in NCAA Division II.

In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and compile a team score at their respective regional championship meet among other qualifiers.

For the WSC women’s cross country team, it’s the eighth time in the last nine years that WSC collected the All-Academic Award. Wayne State was one of 12 NSIC schools and 111 programs in NCAA Division II to earn the academic honor.

For the Wildcat men’s cross country program, this marks the 10th consecutive year WSC has earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team Award

Two years ago, WSC had the top grade point average in NCAA Division II (2020 season canceled due to COVID). A total of 98 NCAA Division II teams, including nine from the Northern Sun Conference, collected the All-Academic Award.
