Wayne State Basketball Opens Conference Tournament Wednesday

MOORHEAD/ST. CLOUD, MN – As the Wayne State College women’s and men’s basketball teams prepare for first round action of the NSIC/Sanford Health basketball tournament, both teams will take to the road for a mid-week contest.

The Wayne State men finished tied for sixth in the south division with Concordia-St. Paul but had a better divisional record to earn the #6-seed outright. For the Wildcat women, they also tied for sixth with Southwest Minnesota State as both teams split and tied in the division but SMSU defeated higher seeded Minnesota State-Mankato during the regular season and the ‘Cats fell to #7.

The Wayne State men ended the season 10-21 (7-15 NSIC) while the Wildcat women finished the year 16-12 (11-11 NSIC).

Earlier this season, MSU Moorhead won 82-71 in Wayne against the ‘Cats while the Wayne State women topped SCSU in St. Cloud, 79-58.

Men’s quarterfinal games will be played this Saturday with the women to play their next round on Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
