Wayne State Baseball Doubled Up By #16 Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, SD – With a mid-week home doubleheader concluding the 2021 season for the Wayne State College baseball team, WSC saw their road schedule come to an end over the weekend.

After splitting at #16 Augustana on Saturday, the ‘Cats saw their early lead slip away Sunday afternoon. The Vikings broke an 8-8 tie in the seventh and won 16-8. Augie improved to 28-9 (24-9 NSIC) while the Wildcats fell to 11-21 (10-18 NSIC).

WSC outscored Augie, 4-2 in the second and scored two runs in the third to lead 6-2. Augie then added a run in the fourth and outscored Wayne State, 5-1 in the sixth. The ‘Cats tied the game up at 8-8 with a run in the sixth before Augustana posted a two-run seventh and six-run eighth to win 16-8.

Alex Logelin singled twice, drove in two runs and scored; Conner Fiene singled twice, drove in a run and scored while Brenden Madsen singled twice for WSC. CJ Neumann singled, drove in two runs and scored; Bryce Bisenius singled, drove in a run and scored as Andrew Hanson, Eric Standish, Noah Roberts and Peyton Barnes all scored.

WSC went through seven pitchers with Keen Allen (0-1) suffering the loss in two innings allowing an earned run off two hits while hitting one batter.

Ryan Obrecht started the first three and a third innings allowing three earned runs off four hits while walking three batters and hitting two; Logan Walters worked an inning allowing three earned runs off two hits while walking and hitting one batter each; Lawson Zenner came in for a third of an inning allowing two earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting one; Aaron Ras didn’t record an out and allowed an earned run while walking two batters; Andrew Staebell pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing four earned runs off four hits while striking out and walking one batter each as did Nathan Anderson in two-thirds allowing two earned runs off one hit while hitting one batter.

The Wayne State College baseball team will close out the year with a home doubleheader on Wednesday, May 5 hosting Upper Iowa. Game times from the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex are set for 1:30/3:30 p.m.
