Wayne State Baseball Avoids Sweep With Saturday Win

MANKATO, MN – The final outing in a three-game series between Wayne State College and Minnesota State-Mankato took place Saturday.

WSC visited the 25th ranked Mavericks.

From the third game in two days, the ‘Cats jumped ahead early with three runs in the first and three more in the third. Wayne State tallied another run in the fourth before Minnesota State-Mankato poured in two runs during the fifth and three in the sixth. Up 7-5, WSC extended their lead with a two-run seventh to hold on for the 9-5 victory in nine innings. Wayne State College is now 29-12 (20-8 NSIC) while the Mavericks fell to 29-9 (20-6 NSIC).

Bryce Bisenius recorded a three-hit game, two being doubles while Peyton Barnes drove in three runs off a pair of singles and a double for WSC. Andrew Hanson tacked on a double and triple to go along with two RBI. Travis Miller singled twice and drove in a run, Jake Lemar singled twice and drove in two runs, Alex Logelin and Colin Chick both singled as Kyle Thompson accounted for a single and RBI.

Cade Hermann (4-0) picked up the win in four and two-thirds allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters, hitting one and walking three. Lawson Zenner worked an inning allowing three runs off two hits while striking out, walking and hitting one batter each. Andrew Staebell pitched two innings allowing two hits while striking out and walking one batter as Charles Hasty closed out the game in an inning and a third striking out three batters.

The Wayne State College baseball team will next host Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday, April 24 at 1/4 p.m.
