WAYNE – After opening their season with a 6-0 road win at Wakefield last week, the Wayne Post 43 Senior American Legion baseball team began their home schedule entering Memorial Day weekend.
From Hank Overin Field on Friday, Post 43 hosted Battle Creek from their season-opening game that was re-scheduled from May 24 due to a rain-out.
The Wayne Seniors started with two runs in the opening inning before Battle Creek got on the board with a run in the top of the third. Up 2-1, Post 43 extended their lead with two more runs in the fifth and finished the game with a five-run sixth to win 9-1. Wayne improved to 2-0 on the season.
James Dorcey doubled, drove in a run and scored while Jacob Kneifl singled and scored three times. Blake Bartos singled and scored twice, Jacob Anderson singled and drove in a run, Cooper Zara singled and scored, Justin Sherman singled, Reid Korth and Wyatt Heikes both scored as Max Miller accounted for a RBI.
Dorcey (86 pitches) secured the complete game win in six innings allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out three batters and walking two.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors are 0-2 on the season following a 5-4 road loss at Wakefield on Wednesday, May 26. Post 43 will next host Hartington this evening at 5:30 p.m. for the Juniors game followed by the Seniors contest around 8 p.m.
The Wakefield Post 81 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams made up a rescheduled game from their season-opening rain out in Ponca. The Memorial Night game favored the Wakefield Juniors, 14-2 while the Ponca Seniors topped Post 81, 7-2. The Wakefield Jrs improved to 2-0 while the Post 81 Srs are now 0-2 as both Jr and Sr Chuck Ellis Legion games were canceled on Sunday with Pierce due to weather. Wakefield will continue their Ralph Bishop League schedule this week when Post 81 visits Pierce this evening at 5:30/8 p.m. and also travels to Hartington on Wednesday, June 2.

In the Ponies Division, Wayne blue is 1-2 after falling 16-7 to Howells/Dodge and will next visit Howells/Dodge on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. Also, Wayne White is 2-1 following a 15-5 road victory at Bancroft/Lyons and will next host North Bend Central on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. The Pony Tournament Team is 2-1 after winning 17-8 at Battle Creek on May 27. The team travels to the Spencer Slugfest Tournament in Spencer, Iowa this weekend.
The Wayne White Broncos are 2-1 after winning 14-5 over Tekamah-Herman on May 27. The team is back on the diamond on Thursday, June 3 at 7:45 p.m. hosting Bancroft/Lyons. The Wayne Blue Broncos recently had their May 27 game at Wakefield postponed due to rain and are 1-1. The team will make up their Logan View Gold game from May 24 this evening (June 1) at 6:45 p.m. and also visit Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday, June 3 at 7:45 p.m.
The Wayne Blue Didgets (3-0) will make up their May 27 rescheduled game at Pierce this evening. The team will also visit Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Wayne White Didgets (2-2) recently lost at Tekamah-Herman Gold, 7-1 on May 27.
