Wayne Post 43 Seniors To End Season During 2020 Class B Invitational

BENNINGTON – As Bennington will be the host for the 2021 Senior Legion Class B State Tournament, they were also scheduled to host this year’s eight-team bracket, but was pushed back a year. Now, 16 teams will make up a four-division Bennington Tournament.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors were selected as one of these power house teams which make up multiple state tournament champions of year’s past. Wayne will also be the host of the Area 5 Senior Legion Tournament in 2021. Senior Legion Area Tournament games were scheduled to be held July 24 – 28 with the Class B State Tournament august 1 – 5.

Wayne closed out their regular season earlier this week with a 7-0 victory over Wakefield Post 81 to enter the 2020 Class B Invitational at 19-1.

Earlier this season, Wayne Post 43 went 3-1 during the Springfield Tournament July 17 – 19. The Wayne Seniors suffered a five-inning, 9-1 loss to Waverly in their first game before winning three straight. Wayne defeated Mt. Michael 5-3 in eight innings; shutout the host Springfield 8-0 in five innings before ending the weekend with a 5-3 victory over Ashland.

Wayne will compete with Alliance at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 as well as Concordia at 1 p.m. and Blair at 4 p.m. both on Friday, July 31 during the North Division 2. The other North Division teams will feature Bennington (host), Wahoo, Roncalli and Springfield.

South Division teams are Ashland, Mt. Michael, Nebraska City and Beatrice along with Plattsmouth, Waverly, Auburn and the host Hickman of the division.

Winners from the two subdivisions will advance to Sunday, August 2 to play a four-team single elimination tournament to decide the overall winner. The finals will be held in Bennington with semifinal game times at 1/4 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m. Sunday night. A limited concession stand will be available and admission will be taken as standard American Legion rules will be applied.
