Wayne Post 43 Seniors Set For Monday Elimination Game, One Win Away From B5 Area Final

WAYNE – Following a hot start to the Class B Area 5 Senior American Legion baseball tournament, the Wayne Post 43 Seniors have found themselves in a Monday night elimination game.

From Pierce, the B5 Senior Legion tourney is now on day four of the five-day series.

After #7 Wayne first topped #2 West Point, 3-2 in nine innings on Friday, Post 43 also picked up a 14-3 win in five innings over #3 O’Neill on Saturday before playing the #1 seed Columbus Lakeview close to a 6-3 loss on Sunday.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors are now 7-11 on the season and 2-1 in the B5 Area Tournament.

During the Saturday run-rule victory over O’Neill, Devin Anderson singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times; Gavin Redden singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored as Aiden Liston singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored.

Cooper Zara singled twice, drove in four runs and scored; Calvin Starzl singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Jacob Anderson singled twice and scored twice; Justin Sherman accounted for a RBI and run scored while single runs came from Wyatt Heikes, James Dorcey, Toby Braun and Ryan Karsky.

Liston (55) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing three earned runs off four hits while striking out and walking two batters each.

In the Sunday defeat to Lakeview, Sherman singled and drove in a run while Starzl singled and scored. Redden accounted for a RBI as Heikes and Dorcey both scored.

Dorcey (102) suffered the loss in six innings allowing five runs (three earned) off two hits while striking out four batters and walking five. Heikes (16) closed out the final inning allowing an earned run off two hits while walking one batter.

Other Sunday scores favored #4 Albion over #3 O’Neill, 10-1 while #5 Pierce knocked out #2 West Point 5-1.

#7 Wayne Post 43 will now face the host Pierce at 5:30 p.m. this evening in an elimination game. The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com will cover the game. Pregame show coverage is being set for 5:10 p.m.

Earlier this season, Pierce won 14-4 over Wayne on June 6 in Wayne.

The nightcap will feature #1 Columbus Lakeview (undefeated in tourney) vs. one-loss #4 Albion at 8 p.m.

The 2022 Class B Senior Legion State Tournament will be hosted by Broken Bow from Saturday, July 30 – Wednesday, August 3.
