VALLEY – Following a third of July defeat to Norfolk, the Wayne Post 43 Seniors were back in action to open a four-game set over three days this week.
From Valley, Wayne took on an opponent they might see in their Area Tournament of Waterloo-Valley Wednesday evening for a double header.
During the opening game, Waterloo-Valley recorded seven runs in the first inning before Wayne answered with a three-run second inning. Waterloo then brought in three runs of their own in the third while scoring four runs in the fourth to lead 14-3. Post 43 tacked on two more runs in the fifth to fall 14-5.

Adam Bentjen, Payten Gamble and Mason Lee all singled and drove in a run for Wayne. Ryan Jaixen and Beau Bowers also singled.
Bentjen suffered the loss in two-thirds allowing seven earned runs off of five hits while striking out one batter and walking two. Ryan Jaixen worked an inning and a third allowing three earned runs off of two hits while striking out and walking two batters. Brennan O’Reilly also pitched an inning and a third allowing four earned runs off of five hits while walking one batter.
From the second game, both teams brought in three runs during the third inning. Waterloo-Valley then added another four runs in the fourth to lead 7-3. Wayne started to comeback with two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth but suffered the loss, 7-6. With the two losses, the Wayne Post 43 Seniors fall to 12-7 on the season.

Tyler Lutt posted a four-hit game with one RBI as Bentjen singled, doubled and drove in four runs for Wayne. Gamble singled and doubled; Zane Jackson singled and drove in a run as Justin Dean, Tucker Nichols and Brennan O’Reilly all singled.
Lutt suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing seven runs (six earned) off of six hits while striking out two batters and walking six. Nichols worked two and two-thirds striking out and walking two batters each.
Wayne will next host Omaha Central for another double header on Friday, July 13 at 3:30/6 p.m. from Hank Overin Field in Wayne. Post 43 will also host Norfolk again next Tuesday, July 17 at 7 p.m. to close out their regular season.
The Class B5 Senior Area American Legion Baseball Tournament is scheduled for Friday, July 20 – Tuesday, July 24 in West Point. Teams joining the host, West Point include: Wayne, Wahoo, Waterloo-Valley, O’Neill and Schuyler. Bracket will be announced later this week.
