COLUMBUS – For the fourth consecutive year, the Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team has qualified for state.
Class B Junior State Tournament action will be held at Pawnee Park in Columbus from Saturday, July 14 – Wednesday, July 18.
After winning the B5 Area Tournament in Wahoo this past Tuesday, Wayne sits 19-4 on the season. Wayne competed in the Bennington Tourney in 2015 getting out of weekend competition, but the past two seasons in Sidney (2016) and Nebraska City (2017), Post 43 has lost twice in a row.
Wayne will open State play on Saturday with 14-9 Ashland Post 129 who won the Area 3 Tournament over Blair. Join Brady Bristol on Big Red Country 104.9 and online at waynedailynews.com with pregame coverage set for 3:45 p.m. pending weather.
Other first round state game will open with Alliance vs. Hickman at 10 a.m., followed by Mount Michael vs. McCook at 1 p.m. and the night cap at 7 p.m. featuring the host, Columbus Lakeview vs. Central City.
If Wayne wins, they’ll play at 7 p.m. on Sunday (Big Red Country 104.9) as a loss puts them in the loser’s bracket at 1 p.m. (98.9 FM/AM 1590 The City). The other winner’s bracket game will be at 4 p.m. while the first game of the day will be an elimination contest at 10 a.m.
Monday will open with two loser’s bracket games at 1 and 4 p.m. while the winners bracket contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. On Tuesday games will be at 4 and 7 p.m. with the Class B Junior State Tournament game set for 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
