WAYNE – After seeing a postponed start to the shortened 2020 legion season, the Wayne Post 43 Juniors were in action Friday night with an out of state opponent.
From Hank Overin Field, Post 43 entertained Yankton.
Both teams scored runs early before Wayne jumped ahead with a three-run third to go up 4-1. Yankton slowly chipped away at the deficit thanks to a run in the fourth and two more in the top of the sixth to notch the game at 4 all. Wayne Post 43 then secured the win thanks to a walk-off run in the home half of the sixth to win 5-4 and begin their season at 1-0.

Max Miller singled twice and drove in a run while Zach McManigal accounted for the winning run with a RBI. Toby Braun also singled twice and scored twice as Cooper Zara and Jacob Anderson both singled and scored a run. James Dorey singled and Justin Sherman scored.
Zara was credited with the win working the final inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out and walking one batter each. Brooks Kneifl started the opening three innings allowing one run while striking out seven batters and walking two. Aiden Liston provided two innings of relief allowing two earned runs off one hit while striking out three batters and walking four.
The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will next join their Senior Legion team on the road at Columbus Lakeview on Monday, June 22 at 5:30/8 p.m.
