YANKTON, SD – As the Wayne Post 43 Seniors had a busy weekend after going 3-1 in the Springfield Tournament, the Wayne Juniors took to the road Tuesday late afternoon following over a week off from competition.
Wayne fell behind early and suffered a 13-3 road loss falling to 4-7 on the season. Earlier this year, Post 43 defeated Yankton, 5-4 on June 19.
Yankton scored three runs in the opening inning before outscoring Wayne 4-1 in the third to lead 7-1. In the top of the fourth, Post 43 scored a run but gave up another run in the fifth to trail 8-2. Yankton then outscored Wayne 5-1 in the sixth to win 13-3.
Cooper Zara singled and scored while James Dorcey added a single for Wayne. Wyatt Heikes and Justin Sherman both had a RBI as Calvin Starzl and Brooks Kneifl both scored.
Max Miller suffered the loss in three innings allowing seven runs (three earned) off three hits while walking six batters. Aiden Liston worked two and two-thirds allowing six runs (three earned) off five hits while striking out one batter and walking three.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors have four games remaining on their schedule with a road contest at Ponca on Wednesday, July 22 before closing out their final home game on Thursday, July 23 against Crofton. Wayne will then travel to O’Neill next Monday, July 27 and play at Wakefield on Tuesday, July 28. The Wakefield vs. Wayne doubleheader will be carried on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com.
The 15-1 Post 43 Seniors will play the same regular season games and compete in the Bennington Tournament next week. Wayne will face Alliance at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 along with Concordia at 1 p.m. and Blair at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 31.
