WAYNE – A five-week league schedule began for the Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball team Monday evening.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the 2021 Ralph Bishop League featured Post 43 hosting Battle Creek.
Battle Creek used a pair of four-run innings early in the Juniors game to win 14-2 in the first game of the summer while the Senior American Legion game was rained out.
From the Juniors contest, Battle Creek opened with a single run in the first and back-to-back four-run innings to lead 9-0. Both teams scored two runs each in the fourth while Battle Creek finished the game with a three-run fifth to win 14-2.
Cooper Zara and Calvin Starzl accounted for the two runs for Wayne while Wyatt Heikes added a RBI.
Aiden Liston (68 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing nine runs off five hits while striking out and walking three each. Zara (49 pitches) worked an inning allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out two batters and walking five. Starzl (20 pitches) came in for the final inning striking out three batters and walking one.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors game with Battle Creek has been rescheduled for Friday, May 28 at 6 p.m. in Wayne. Both the Wayne teams will next visit Wakefield Post 81 on Wednesday, May 26 in Ralph Bishop League action at 5:30/8 p.m.
