Wayne Pony Youth Baseball Combined For 15 Hits In Tri-Co Tourney Victory

WAYNE – As the regular season concluded last week, Tri-County League teams prepared for tourney play as the Pony Division started first.

Following a pair of bunny bracket games over the weekend, eight games were held across northeast Nebraska Monday evening.

For the Wayne Ponies, who finished third in league standings with a 9-2 regular season mark, hosted #14 Howells-Dodge from the Summer Sports Complex.

Wayne took control from the start and posted a 16-1 win led by Tanner Walling and Toby Braun both recording three hits each. Jacob Anderson, Brooks Kneifl, James Dorcey and Justin Sherman all added two hits while Cooper Zara tacked on one hit.

Dylan Anderson picked up the complete game win in four innings allowing one hit while striking out nine batters and walking one.

The Wayne Pony Youth Baseball team will next play on Thursday, July 5 hosting #6 Wisner at 6:30 p.m.

The 2018 Didget Tournament will open on Thursday with games set for 6 p.m. #2 Wayne White earned a bye and will face the winner of either #15 Tekamah-Herman Gold or #18 West Point Royals on Saturday; #8 Wayne Blue will start Thursday hosting #25 Columbus Lakeview followed by #9 Wayne Black vs. #24 Arlington White at 8 p.m.

2018 Didget Tournament

If both the Blue and Black Didgets win, they’ll play each other this Saturday in Wayne.

Both the Wayne White and Blue Broncos earned first round byes in their tournament which is slated to start on Friday. But, the Wayne teams will open on Sunday, July 8.

2018 Bronco Tournament _

#1 Wayne White will host the winner of either #16 Arlington White or #17 Lyons while the Blues will entertain the winner of either #13 West Point Royals or #20 North Bend Drillers. The Wayne White and Blue Broncos could eventually meet in the semifinal contest next Thursday for a chance to go to the championship game.
