SPENCER, IA – After the Wayne Pony Tournament team went 2-1 in regular season games, the team played three more games in two days this past weekend.
From Spencer, Iowa, the Wayne Pony Tournament team competed in the Spencer Slugfest.
The Wayne 14U team opened Saturday with a 10-4 victory over Carroll (IA) but lost to SC Futures Bremer, 10-3. Sunday’s lone outing saw Sergeant Bluff defeat Wayne, 10-3 as the team fell to 3-3 on the season.
During Wayne’s lone win of the Spencer Slugfest, Wayne jumped ahead of Carroll, 7-2 in the opening inning. Wayne outscored Carroll, 3-1 in the third as Carroll scored once more in the top of the fourth falling 10-4.
Wayne recorded 13 hits in the game and were led by Alex Rodriguez with two singles, three RBI and one run scored; Mason Heikes singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored; Carter Wiese singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Parker Patefield singled twice. Gavin Anderson added a double, RBI and two runs scored; Drew Reinhardt singled and drove in two runs; Jace Jorgensen singled and scored twice; will Leseberg singled, drove in a run and scored as Kaden Keller singled and scored.
Gavin Anderson (36 pitches) picked up the win in two innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out four batters. Zander Liston (47 pitches) worked the final two innings allowing two runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out four batters and walking one.
The Wayne Pony Tournament team will next be in Sioux Falls, South Dakota this weekend and open with Sioux Falls Post 15 on Friday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. Wayne will also face Watertown (SD) at 1 p.m. and Yankton (SD) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 12.
Moving into Tri County League play, the Wayne White Ponies visited Wakefield Sunday evening where Wakefield won 11-4 as Wayne fell to 3-2 in league play.
Wakefield outscored Wayne White, 5-1 in the opening inning before scoring two more runs in the third to lead 7-1. Both teams scored three runs in the fourth as Wakefield added one more run in the fifth to win 11-4.
Zander Liston singled twice and drove in three runs while Parker Patefield singled and drove in a run. Calvin Ankeny singled and scored twice as single runs came from Drew Reinhardt and Lance Stange.
Liston (31 pitches) suffered the loss in one inning allowing five earned runs off three hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Ankeny (59 pitches) worked three innings allowing five runs (four earned) off six hits while striking out four batters and walking one. Alex Rodriguez (28 pitches) pitched two innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out three batters.
Wayne White is back in action on Wednesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. hosting Stanton.
The Wayne Blue Ponies are 2-2 and return to action Monday evening hosting Tekamah-Herman at 7:30 p.m.
