Wayne Pony Baseball Results

WAYNE/LYONS– With the combined Wayne pony tournament team scheduled to be in action this evening, the Tri County League teams were both in action with a mid-week outing.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, the Wayne Blue Ponies hosted Howells/Dodge while the Wayne White Ponies traveled to Lyons to visit Bancroft/Lyons. Wayne Blue is now 1-2 following a 16-7 road loss while the Wayne White’s improved to 2-1 thanks to a 15-5 home win.

In the home contest for Wayne Blue, Howells/Dodge outscored Wayne 4-1 in the first while Wayne Blue added a run in the second to trail 4-2. Howells/Dodge then poured in runs of four in the third and three in the fifth to extend their lead to 11-2. Both teams scored three runs in the fifth, Wayne Blue tacked on a run in the sixth and Howells-Dodge outscored Wayne 2-1 in the seventh to win 16-7.

Kaden Keller singled three times, drove in a run and scored three times while Will Leseberg singled twice, drove in a run and scored. Gavin Anderson singled and drove in a run, Mason Heikes and Jamison Meyer both singled, Jace Jorgensen scored three times as Brodrick Tiedtke accounted for a RBI.

Tiedtke suffered the loss (53 pitches) in two and a third innings allowing eight runs (five earned) off six hits while striking out and walking three batters each. Meyer worked two and two-thirds (58 pitches) allowing six earned runs off six hits while striking out five batters and walking three. Jorgensen pitched two innings (34 pitches) allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out three batters and walking two.

From the road outing with Wayne White, Wayne outscored Bancroft/Lyons 5-2 and 7-2 in the opening innings to lead 9-4. Wayne added a run in the fourth and again outscored their opponent, 2-1 in the fifth and final inning to win 15-5.

Gavin Redden doubled twice, singled, drove in three runs and scored twice while Calvin Ankeny singled twice and scored three times. Mason Karsky singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Austin Heiser singled, drove in two runs and scored; Drew Reinhardt singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times; Lance Stange singled and drove in two runs; Parker Patefield and Zander Liston both singled and scored as Caden Wiese and Carter Wiese both accounted for a RBI. Alex Rodriquez also scored twice.

Reinhardt secured the win (58 pitches) in two innings allowing four earned runs off five hits while striking out four batters and walking four. Patefield (40 pitches) worked three innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out two batters and walking one.

The Wayne White Ponies will be off until next Wednesday, June 2 when they host North Bend Central at 7 p.m. while the Blue Ponies will then visit Howells-Dodge also on June 2 at 7 p.m. The Wayne 14U tournament baseball team is 1-1 and are next scheduled to visit Battle Creek this evening at 7 p.m.
