Wayne Ponies Top Pierce White, All Other Youth Teams Earn On Bye

WAYNE – While legion baseball will conclude their league tournament Sunday, youth baseball around northeast Nebraska began Saturday.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne ponies opened the Tri-County League tourney Saturday evening.

#3 Wayne topped #14 Pierce White 21-7. Wayne will next host #6 Wisner on Monday, July 8 scheduled for 6:30 p.m. as Wisner edged #11 Schuyler, 5-2.

Aiden Liston recorded a pair of singles and a double while Yair Alcantara tripled for Wayne. Calvin Starzl went 2-for-3 with a double as Dom Dominguez, Wyatt Heikes, Kaden Hopkins, Ryan Karsky, Shayne Geidner and James Dorcey all singled.

Cooper Zara pitched the opening three innings allowing seven runs off three hits while striking out and walking five batters each. Starzl closed out the final three innings allowing two hits while striking out five batters and walking one.

 

The fifth seeded Wakefield ponies also won their first-round game over #12 Tekamah-Herman (12-0). Wakefield will next visit #4 Oakland/Craig Monday night who defeated #13 West Point Twins (16-9).

 

The didget tri-county bracket got underway Saturday with their first round as both Wayne teams were on a bye.

#1 Wayne white will now face #16 Wisner on Monday, July 8 as Wisner topped #17 Logan View Blue (10-5). #5 Wayne blue will next host #12 North Bend Whitesoxs Monday as NB defeated #21 Homer Hawks (8-4).

#26 Wakefield didgets suffered a 12-5 loss to #7 Howells/Dodge Saturday.

 

The bronco division began Sunday night as #3 Wayne blue will next face #14 West Point Patriots as West Point defeated #19 Wisner (5-1). #6 Wayne white will host #11 Arlington Maroon as Arlington topped #22 Homer (18-2). Both games will be played at the Summer Sports Complex on Tuesday, July 9.

 

The 15th-seeded Wakefield broncos won 17-7 over #18 Logan View Gold and will next face #2 Pender Red at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
