WAYNE – It was second round action for Pony and opening round competition for Didget youth baseball teams Thursday night during the 2018 Tri County League Tournament.
From the Pony Division, #3 Wayne won 11-1 in five innings over #6 Wisner to move onto the quarterfinal round.
Jacob Anderson and Dylan Anderson both tallied three hits while Toby Braun tripled and Brooks Kneifl doubled for Wayne. Other hits came from Tanner Walling and Justin Sherman.
James Dorcey picked up the win in four innings allowing one run off of one hit while striking out three batters and walking four. Tanner Walling worked an inning.
The Wayne Ponies will next face #2 Arlington who edged #10 Lyons-Bancroft, 2-1. The game will be held in West Point on Saturday, July 7 at 5 p.m. Their game will be followed by #1 Pierce (defeated #8 Tekamah-Herman, 4-3) vs. #4 Oakland-Craig (defeated #5 Logan View, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m.
Moving into the Didget Division, #8 Wayne Blue took care of business over #25 Columbus Lakeview and won 10-0.
The ninth-seeded Wayne Blacks had a closer game winning 6-5 over #24 Arlington White Thursday evening from the Summer Sports Complex. Alex Rodriquez posted a three-hit night to go along with four RBI and pick up the win on the mound. Chase Sturm added two hits and a RBI while Austin Heiser also drove in a run.
The Wayne Blues and Blacks will face one another on Saturday, July 7 at 6 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex.
