Wayne Juniors To Close Regular Season Wednesday, Area 5 Tournament Teams Seeded

ALBION – With postseason American Legion baseball making a return after being canceled in the summer of 2020 due to the pandemic, the seeding meeting for the Class B Area 5 Junior Tournament was held Tuesday evening.

According to head coach Robbie Gamble of Wayne Post 43, the Wayne Juniors were tabbed as the #5 seed and will face #4 Plainview at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 9 in Albion.

Wayne Post 43 was 8-7 at the time of the seeding meeting as Plainview is 6-5 and had a better winning percentage to give them the four-seed. Wayne recently suffered a 1-0 loss in the quarterfinal round to the eventual Ralph Bishop League Tournament Champion, Pierce on June 28. Pierce defeated Arlington, 5-4 in the finals.

The Wayne/Plainview winner will face #1 Albion on Saturday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m. while the loser would receive a bye into Sunday.

Other first round match-ups include #3 Columbus Lakeview vs. #6 St. Paul at 5 p.m. followed by #2 Pierce vs. #7 O’Neill at 7:30 p.m. The two winners would play each other at 5 p.m. Saturday while the loser’s would play at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The 2021 Class B Junior State Tournament will be held July 17 – 22 in Waverly.

B5 Jr at Albion

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will join their Seniors team (12-4) hosting Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells on Wednesday, July 7 at 5:30/8 p.m.
