Wayne Juniors Shutout West Point, Cruise Past Pender To Be Crowned Ralph Bishop League Champions

TEKAMAH/WAKEFIELD – With weather causing a delay to a semifinal game in the 2018 Ralph Bishop League Tournament, it was Championship Sunday from Eaton Field in Wakefield.

Saturday saw three games go final, (two juniors and one senior) while the second Senior American Legion game was delayed in the top of the second inning between Arlington and Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells.

In Tekamah, the #1 seed Wayne Post 43 Juniors began the day battling #4 West Point Post 70.  Wayne used a four-run third inning to secure the 4-0 victory.

Trevor DeBoer singled twice and drove in a run while Reid Korth doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Hagan Miller singled and drove in a run as Jacob Kneifl added a single.

Kneifl picked up the complete game win in seven innings allowing one hit while striking out 11 batters and walking one.

Other Saturday scores saw #3 Pender defeat the Arlington Juniors, 1-0; West Point Seniors defeat Pender, 6-5 as Sunday’s Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells Seniors won over Arlington, 6-2.

Moving into Sunday, Wayne scored three runs in the first inning against #3 Pender before Post 55 added a two-run second inning. Wayne then opened the game with a five-run fourth inning; Pender outscored Wayne 3-1 in the fifth before Post 43 tallied another four runs in the sixth to win 13-5. The Wayne Post 43 Juniors are now 15-2 on the season.

Wayne recorded five extra base-hits with Reid Korth adding a double and triple while Gunnar Jorgensen singled twice, tripled and drove in four runs. Trevor DeBoer singled twice and drove in two runs; Blake Bartos singled, doubled and drove in two runs; Kneifl singled and drove in a run; Josh Lutt and Miller singled as Victor Kniesche tripled.

DeBoer picked up the complete game win in six innings allowing five runs (three earned) off of six hits while striking out nine batters.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will next join the Seniors on Tuesday, July 3 at Norfolk. Join Sports Director, Aaron Scheffler on Big Red Country 104.9 and online at waynedailynews.com at 4:45 p.m. for pregame coverage with Junior action to get underway at 5 p.m. and Seniors to follow at 7:30 p.m.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors were also tabbed as the #1 seed Sunday night in the Class B Area 5 Junior American Legion Baseball Tournament.  Games will get underway in Wahoo from Friday, July 6 – Tuesday, July 10 with Wayne earning a bye to start on Saturday. Games times are TBD, but Big Red Country 104.9 and online at waynedailynews.com will follow the Wayne Juniors in the postseason.
