WAYNE – Post 43 American Legion Baseball took part in their first of back-to-back games this week on the diamond.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 welcomed in Hartington Tuesday evening.
In the Seniors contest, Wayne defeated Hartington, 12-4 to improve to 3-0 while the Post 43 Juniors won 7-2 over Hartington to secure their first win of the summer now at 1-2.
During the Seniors outing, Wayne opened the first with three runs before outscoring Hartington, 3-1 in the second. Hartington cut into the deficit with two runs in the top of the third before the Post 43 Seniors again posted a three-run fourth and outscored the visiting team, 3-1 in the fifth to win 12-4.
Blake Bartos singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored three times while Max Miller singled twice, drove in two runs and scored. Jacob Kneifl singled twice and scored three times, Toby Braun and James Dorcey both singled and scored, Jacob Anderson accounted for a RBI and two runs scored, Justin Sherman drove in two runs, Wyatt Heikes added a RBI and Calvin Starzl scored.
Bartos (107 pitches) secured the win in three and two-thirds allowing three runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out nine batters and walking nine. Brock Hopkins (19 pitches) worked the final inning and a third allowing an earned runs off one hit while striking out two batters.

From the Juniors game, both teams scored a run in the first before Hartington took the early lead with another run in the top of the second. Post 43 regained the lead thanks to a two-run fourth and then Wayne added insurance runs with one in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win 7-2.
Jase Dean recorded two singles, four RBI and one run scored as Cooper Zara singled twice, drove in a run and scored. James Dorcey singled and scored twice, Zack McManigal and Ryan Karsky both accounted for a RBI as Jack Bruckner, Aiden Liston and Devin Anderson all scored.
Liston (85 pitches) secured the win in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits while striking out six batters and walking three. Anderson (30 pitches) worked the final two innings allowing two hits while striking out four batters.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will next visit Pierce at 5:30/8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2.
Wakefield Jr/Sr at Pierce:
After the Chuck Ellis Tournament game was canceled on Sunday, Wakefield then visited Pierce Tuesday night. The Wakefield Post 81 Juniors suffered a 5-1 loss to Pierce while the Pierce Seniors held off Wakefield, 12-11. The Post 81 Juniors fell to 2-1 while the Wakefield Seniors are now 0-3.
The Post 81 Juniors and Seniors will next visit Hartington at 5:30/8 p.m. tonight.
