O’NEILL – With back-to-back road outings set for the Wayne Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams early in the week, Post 43 visited O’Neill Monday night.
The Junior Legion showdown featured a walk-off victory for O’Neill over Wayne, 3-2 as Post 43 had their two-game winning streak snapped to now sit 6-8 on the season. For the Wayne Seniors, they earned a 16-4 victory in five innings improving to 18-1 on the season.
In the Juniors contest, following a pair of scoreless innings, O’Neill was first to score a pair of runs in the third before Wayne answered with back-to-back single run innings during the fourth and fifth. O’Neill then scored in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh to win 3-2.
James Dorcey singled, doubled and scored to pace Post 43 at the plate. Max Miller and Wyatt Heikes also singled while Calvin Starzl scored.
Dorcey suffered the loss in a third of an inning allowing an earned run off one hit while walking one batter. Brooks Kneifl started the opening six innings allowing two runs (one earned) off five hits while striking out 12 batters and walking one.

During the Seniors game, Trevor DeBoer dominated at the plate with a double, homerun, grand slam and three runs scored; Blake Bartos singled twice and scored three times as Hagan Miller singled twice and scored twice for Wayne. Jacob Kneifl doubled and scored; Reid Korth singled and scored three times; Gunnar Jorgensen and Josh Lutt both singled and scored as Tyrus Eischeid and Brock Hopkins each accounted for a run scored.
Jacob Kneifl picked up the win in two innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters. Eischeid worked the next inning and a third allowing two hits while striking out two batters and walking two. Bartos then closed out the final inning and two-thirds striking out and walking two batters each.
The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will next visit Wakefield Post 81 at 5:30/8 p.m. from Eaton Field in Wakefield on Tuesday, July 28. This will be the final game for the Post 43 Juniors while the Wayne Seniors will then end their season competing in the Bennington Tournament Thursday and Friday with possible games on Sunday as well.
