TEKAMAH – After picking up a pair of Ralph Bishop League wins earlier this week, the Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams were back in action on Wednesday.
Both the Wayne teams won at Pender on Monday and Post 43 competed in their second road game of the season at Tekamah.
In the Juniors contest, Wayne used a three-run opening inning to take the early lead and never looked back. Post 43 then tacked on seven runs in the second, two more runs in the third and outscored Tekamah 11-1 in the fourth. Final found Wayne winning 23-1 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

As a team, Wayne picked up 16 hits led by three players with three each. Reid Korth used two doubles, a single and three RBI followed by Trevor DeBoer producing two singles, a double and three RBI. Hagan Miller singled twice and doubled; Blake Bartos singled and doubled to go along with four RBI; Jacob Kneifl doubled and singled; Gunnar Jorgensen singled twice and drove in two runs as Victor Kniesche singled and drove in two runs.
Josh Lutt picked up the win in three innings allowing one hit while striking out three batters and walking one. Drew Buck worked the final inning allowing an earned run while striking out and walking one batter each.
From the Seniors game, Wayne Post 43 jumped out front with a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Tekamah tabbed a run in the home half of the second inning. Wayne then used a pair of two-run innings in the third and fourth to see their lead grow to 6-1. Tekamah chipped away at the deficit with a run in the fifth and sixth while bringing in two runs during the seventh, but Wayne held on for the 6-5 victory. Wayne is now 2-0 on the season.

Payten Gamble accounted for a third of Wayne Post 43’s hits with a single, double and homerun while adding two RBI. Zane Jackson singled and doubled as Tyler Lutt singled twice. Justin Dean recorded a single and two RBI as Tucker Nichols singled.
Nichols picked up the win in six innings allowing three runs (two earned) off three hits while striking out five batters and walking four. Jackson was awarded the save in the final inning allowing two runs off one hit while striking out two batters and walking one.
The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will next be in action on Friday, May 25 to open their home schedule with Logan View coming to town. Juniors action will get underway at 5:45 p.m. with a Seniors game to follow at 8 p.m. from Hank Overin Field.
