Wayne Junior High Girls Place Runner-Up During Wayne Tourney

WAYNE – The Wayne Junior High seventh and eight grade basketball teams were in action this past weekend during the Wayne Tourney.

From the Jr/Sr High School gym, both Wayne teams placed second.

The Wayne Blue team (seventh graders) opened with a 48-7 win over Hartington Cedar Catholic before falling to Guardian Angels Central Catholic (54-18) in the championship game.

In the win over HCC, Katy Jones led the Wayne seventh graders with 16 points and five rebounds followed by nine points and five boards from Frantzdie Barner. Gabbi Judd added six points and seven boards while Kierah Haase tacked on six points.

From the loss to GACC, Barner tallied six points and five boards as Jones recorded six points and four boards. Judd added three points and two rebounds.

 

For the Wayne Black team (eighth/some seventh graders) edged HCC (26-23) but then fell to Pierce (30-21).

During the win over Cedar Catholic, Brooklyn Kruse led Wayne Black with 18 points. Talia Meyer produced six boards and Madi Urbanec added five boards.

In the loss to Pierce, Kruse again paced the team with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Wayne Junior High girls will next visit Norfolk Catholic today at 4:45 p.m.
