HARTINGTON – After hosting back-to-back games in mid-January, the Wayne Junior High boys basketball teams began their road schedule this past weekend.
From Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, the seventh and eighth grade Wayne boys visited Hartington Cedar Catholic Saturday.
The Wayne seventh graders got behind early and fell 35-15 while the Blue Devil eighth graders suffered a 29-19 road loss to HCC.
In the seventh-grade game, Wayne trailed 16-1 after the opening half before scoring 14 points in the second half to drop a 35-15 game.
Leading the way for the Blue Devil seventh graders were Gavin Anderson with five points followed by Brodey Munter with three points. Other points came from Drew Reinhardt, Jace Jorgensen and Cole Claussen with two points each while Drew Miller added a point.
From the eighth-grade game, Hartington Cedar Catholic got off to a hot start and led 16-4 after one quarter. Wayne played close to even the rest of the way but couldn’t overcome the early deficit and again fell 29-19.
Colson Nelsen paced the Wayne eighth graders with seven points while Gavin Redden added six points. Also scoring for Wayne were Mar’Keidron King (five points) and Kaden Keller (one point).
The Wayne Junior High boys basketball teams will next visit Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in Coleridge starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
