PIERCE – With a break in the action for the JV and varsity runners, the Wayne Junior High cross country teams were able to take part in their own race.
From the Pierce Community Golf Course on Tuesday, WHS competed in the Pierce JH Invite.
The Wayne Junior High girls placed runner-up with 36 points while the Blue Devil JH boys finished third with 48 points.
There were 53 female runners and 71 male competitors on the approximate 3,200-meter course.
Leading the Wayne Junior High girls was eighth-grader Lilyan Hurner in third in a time of 14:22 followed by teammate Reagan McGuire in eighth place (14:47).
Other eighth-grade girls results came from Kennasyn Blecke (18th – 16:14); Josie Ley (19th – 16:27); Kayleigh Graybeal (30th – 17:47); Sophia Spieker (38th – 18:44) and Sharon Vasquez (40th – 18:59).
Eighth-grader Drew Miller paced the Wayne JH boys in third crossing the line in a time of 12:29. The top seventh-grader was Emmanuel Gonzalez in 11th place (13:03).
Other Wayne Junior High result were from eighth graders Boden Dobbins (18th – 13:57) and Blade Nelson (32nd – 15:18) as well as seventh graders Lance Brink (25th – 14:38); Cole Zach (34th – 15:30); Alejandro Archundia (37th – 15:44); Camden Hall (45th – 16:48); Jenner Dorey (46th – 16:51); Landen Claussen (55th – 17:41); Joshua Zavala (56th – 17:49); Landon Sharer (64th – 19:17) and Lucas Allemann (66th – 20:03).
The Wayne Junior High runners will join the Wayne High varsity girls and boys cross country team on Thursday, September 30 during the Aquinas Catholic Invite in David City starting around 4:30 p.m.
