Montiel, Bruns Record First Place Finishes To Lead Blue Devil Girls; Wayne Boys Return With Two Medalists During High Caliber Schuyler Invite 

SCHUYLER – After taking part in a road dual earlier in the week, the Wayne High girls and boys wrestling program went right back to work for a road invitational.

From Schuyler Community Schools, the Blue Devil girls competed with 11 other teams while the WHS boys joined 12 teams during Saturday’s Schuyler Invite.

The Wayne girls had three athletes compete to finish seventh with 40 points (just one point away from a fifth place tie with Lexington and Columbus).

The host Schuyler won the invite with 105 points, followed by Columbus Lakeview in second with 61 points, Aurora took third with 53 points and Amherst finished fourth with 48 points.

Renieth Montiel (100) and Jaycee Bruns (126) both finished first for the Wayne girls. Liberty Titiml (145) also competed for WHS.

Wayne High boys also sent 11 wrestlers and finished 12th as a team with 31 points.

Bennington won the invite with 237.5 points, Scottsbluff followed in second with 215 points, Aquinas Catholic took third with 207.5 points, Columbus Lakeview came in fourth with 135 points as Aurora rounded out the top five teams (120).

Wayne High top performances came from Ashton Munsell (138) finished third and Dakota Spann (182) took fifth. Garrett Schultz (120) went 1-2 and earned a point for the team standings.

With the Wayne High girls wrestling program set to visit Battle Creek on Monday, January 17 starting at 4 p.m., Blue Devil boys wrestlers will be off until Saturday, January 22 competing in the Neligh-Oakdale Invite starting at 10 a.m.
