Wayne High Volleyball Individuals Receive Postseason Honors

WAYNE – A handful of Wayne High volleyball athletes were tabbed with Norfolk Daily News postseason honors.

Junior Lauren Pick and sophomore Kiara Krusemark both were named to the Class C All-Area Team; senior Emily Armstrong earned Class C Second-Team as senior Hailey Backer and sophomore Sydney Redden were named honorable mention.

Wayne High finished their 2019 season with a 29-6 record ending the year with a first-round state tourney defeat to Broken Bow in the Class C1 state tournament in four sets (25-22, 20-25, 8-25, 18-25). It was the 10th time Wayne High qualified for state, second straight year as WHS also ended a 10-set losing streak since 2002 (sixth trip to state).

Pick recorded a team-high 550 kills on the season (5.8 kills per set) to lead Wayne High to go along with 31 total blocks (21 solo) followed by Armstrong with 271 kills (2.9 k/s) and 27 total blocks (11 solo). Krusemark recorded 1,013 set assists on 3,324 attempts this season (10.7 assists per set) with only 12 ball handling errors.

Redden was the team leader in service aces (34) followed by Backer with 32.

Backer paced the team in digs with 506 (14.5 digs per match), followed by Armstrong with 429 (12.3 d/m), Redden had 389 (11.1 d/m) and Pick tallied 356 (10.2).
