Wayne High Track & Field Goes Toe-To-Toe With Omaha, Lincoln Schools

ELKHORN – After hosting a meet earlier this week on Tuesday, the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team took part in the Kruger May Invitational where two school records were broken.

Hosted by Elkhorn High, Lincoln Pius X stole the show in both divisions. The boys won with 104 points while their girls recorded 91.

Taking runner-up in the girls division was Elkhorn South with 83 points, followed in third by Elkhorn with 81 points, Wayne High took fourth with 60 points and Gretna rounded out the top five teams with 52 points. Omaha Northwest placed sixth (49), Bellevue East finished seventh (32), Ralston took eighth (29), Bellevue West (ninth – 26) and Bennington (10th – 23).

All 10 Blue Devil competitors returned with medals led by the first-place finish by Kylie Hammer in the long jump (17’ 7 ¾”) while Maysn Dorey won and set a new school record in the pole vault (9’).

Jenna Trenhaile also set a new school record with a second place discus finish (128’) as Emily Armstrong placed second in the shot put (35’ 8 ¼”). Hammer also finished runner-up in the triple jump (36’ 11 ½”) and fourth in the 200 – meter dash (27.03).

Gabi Meyer took fifth in the 800 – meter run (2:28.5) and fifth during the 3200 – meter run (12:44.12) while Hailey Backer placed fifth in the pole vault (7’ 6”). Allison Claussen finished fourth in the shot put (35’ 7”).

In relays, the 4X400 – meter relay team placed fifth in a time of 4:26.59 (Meyer, Erin O’Reilly, Frankie Klausen, Hammer) while the 4X100m relay team finished eighth in 55.85 seconds (Backer, Allison Claussen, Trenhaile, Dorey).

Kruger May Invitational Meet Results

Placing runner-up for the boys was Boys Town with 80.33 points, followed by Elkhorn South in third with 60.33 points, edging Bellevue West who took fourth with 60 points and Elkhorn rounded out the top five teams with 56 points. Gretna placed sixth (39), Ralston finished seventh (37), Wayne High took eighth (32.33), Omaha Northwest (ninth – 23), Bellevue East (10th – 20) and Bennington rounded out the 11 teams with 15 points.

The Blue Devil boys were led by Cody Rogers winning the long jump (20’ 8 ¼”) and placing second in the triple jump (41’ 2”) while Kaden Kneifl took runner-up in the shot put (48’ 5 ½”).

Alex Echtenkamp finished fourth in the triple jump (40’).

Kneifl also finished fifth in the discus (134’ 7”), Jack Evetovich tied for sixth in the high jump (5’ 10”) and Echtenkamp took seventh in the pole vault (10’ 6”).

The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the Schuyler Invite on Thursday, April 19 starting at 10 a.m.
