Wayne High Sweeps Road Triangular Opponents, Pick Joins 1,000-Kill Club

ALBION – After winning three matches in three nights last week, the Wayne High volleyball team earned a well-deserved break before a busy schedule of road matches over the next few days.

WHS began the week with a Tuesday night road triangular in Albion taking on the host Boone Central/Newman Grove and Pierce.

In the match with the host Cardinals, Wayne High was challenged in the second set but won in two (25-13, 26-24) before sweeping the Bluejays (25-17, 25-15). Wayne High improves to 22-4 winning their seventh of their past eight matches all in straight sets.

From the win against Boone Central/Newman Grove, Lauren Pick moves into the 1,000-kill club thanks to 12 kills and six digs to go along with three total blocks (two solo) for Wayne as Emily Armstrong added four kills and a team-high 12 digs. Frankie Klausen tallied three kills and three digs while Mikaela McManigal, Sydney Redden (five digs/service ace) and Rubie Klausen all tallied a kill. Kiara Krusemark finished with 20 set assists and Hailey Backer recorded eight digs and an ace.

During the sweep over Pierce, Pick came away with a double-double thanks to 10 kills and 11 digs followed by Armstrong with seven kills and 12 digs for Wayne. Sydney Redden was the team leader in digs with 18 to go along with a kill as Frankie Klausen posted four kills, Emily Longe two kills and McManigal tacked on a kill. Krusemark recorded 25 set assists, Backer finished with 10 digs and Erin O’Reilly tallied a service ace.

The Wayne High volleyball team will next visit Crofton on Thursday, October 10.
