Wayne High Softball Uses Three-Run Innings To Pick Up Road Victory  

WISNER – Excluding the Adams Central Tourney and Mid State Conference Tourney, the Wayne High softball team had three regular season games remaining on the schedule all with 14+ wins entering Thursday night.

From Wisner River Park, NEN (Wisner-Pilger, BRLD, Pender) hosted Wayne High.

WHS opened the game with a three-run first before tacking on three more runs in the fourth to lead 6-0. After NEN got on the board in the sixth with a run, the Blue Devils put the game away thanks to a two-run seventh to win 8-1. Wane High is now 18-3 on the season while Vipers fell to 14-4.

Kayla Fleming recorded a single, double and two RBI while Tori Kniesche singled twice and drove in two runs for Wayne. Aliah Schulz doubled and drove in two runs; Brooklyn Kruse singled twice and drove in a run; Hope O’Reilly doubled as Kendall Dorey, Taytum Sweetland and Nicole Fertig all singled. Brianna Nissen accounted for a RBI.

Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game win in seven innings allowing one run off two hits while striking out 18 batters and walking one.

With just the Mid State Conference tourney and two regular season outings left for Wayne High prior to postseason softball, the team will travel to Hastings this weekend for the Adams Central Tournament. The Blue Devils will open Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with Ord followed by the winner/loser of either Milford or Wilber-Clatonia at 11:30 a.m. The other half of the bracket features Cozad vs. Polk County and Blue Hill vs. Adams Central. The final games will be played at 1 p.m. from the Smith Softball Complex.
