O’NEILL – The Wayne High volleyball team took part in their second road triangular of the season when they visited O’Neill Thursday.
The Eagles welcomed in both the Blue Devils and Hartington Cedar Catholic.
Wayne High swept the Trojans (25-23, 25-21) and then did the same to O’Neill (25-21, 25-12). WHS improves to 10-7 on the season snapping a three-match losing streak. The third match favored Hartington Cedar Catholic over O’Neill (25-15, 25-9) as the Trojans are now 10-10 on the season while the Eagles fell to 8-7.
Both the Wayne Junior Varsity teams also swept their triangular opponents of O’Neill (25-16, 25-12) and HCC (25-15, 25-17).
During the victory over Cedar Catholic, Rubie Klausen came away with six kills and three digs while Emily Longe (three blocks/two solo) and Kate Hill (two blocks/one solo) both recorded three kills. Kiara Krusemark posted 13 set assists and a service ace while Sydney Redden (two digs) also had an ace. Katy Jones also had a block.
In the match against O’Neill, Krusemark paced the team in kills with five while adding 13 set assists and a solo block. Longe tallied four kills and a solo block as Klausen came away with a team-high 10 digs. Redden recorded a team-high four service aces and seven digs while Hill, Krusemark, Longe and Klausen all had an ace.
The Wayne High volleyball team will next compete in the Wisner-Pilger September Classic on Saturday, September 26. WHS will open with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 10 a.m.
