Wayne High Places Fourth During Blue Machine Tournament, Winside Finishes Runner-Up

WAYNE – As the pre-holiday wrestling schedule comes to a close early this week, a weekend tournament featured both the Wayne High and Winside wrestlers.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr High gymnasium, WHS welcomed in 12 other teams during the Blue Machine Tournament Saturday.

Schuyler won the tournament with 173.5 points, followed by Winside in second with 140.5 points, Neligh-Oakdale placed third with 124.5 points, the host Wayne High took fourth with 84 points and Quad County Northeast rounded out the top five teams with 78 points.

Oakland-Craig (sixth – 77.5), Clarkson-Leigh (T-seventh – 37), Winnebago (T-seventh – 37), Stanton (ninth – 34.5), BRLD (10th – 27), Wisner-Pilger (11th – 25), Cedar Bluffs (12th – 15) and Scribner-Snyder (13th – 11).

Wayne High was led by Reece Jaqua (132) and Reid Korth (182) who both won their weight classes. Aiden Liston (170) placed second, Dakota Spann (195) took third and Zach McManigal (113) finished fourth.

Winside individual champions went to Cayden Ellis (120), Jacoby Mann (126), Art Escalante (138) and Gabe Escalante (145) while Mason Topp (170) placed second. Max Magwire (132) took third and Tyler Carlson (152) finished fourth.

Quad County Northeast leaders were Kolby Casey (220) who won his weight class while Nolan Ohlrich (152) took second. Fischer Carson (285) placed third as Colby Wathor (195) and Ajay Gubbels (182) both finished fourth.

 

The Wayne High wrestling team will be off until Tuesday, January 5 when they host Boone Central and Plainview during a home triangular at 6 p.m. The Winside wrestlers will return to the mat on Wednesday, December 30 during the Newman Grove Holiday Tournament starting at 9 a.m.
