The Blue Devils are preseason-rated #2 in both the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald.

It was a season for the record books in 2019 for Wayne High as the team made it the furthest-ever in the postseason with a Class C1 semi-final playoff appearance.

WHS won six straight late in the season before falling to the eventual champions of Wahoo, 21-7. Wayne High closed out their season at 9-3 with their regular season losses coming at the hands of the C1 finalists; Pierce and Wahoo. The Blue Devils return six starters on both offense and defense, 10 letter winners along with their kicker and a punter who transferred in from Pender. WHS also gained another transfer who started on the Wilber-Clatonia defense.

Russ Plager enters his fourth year as the head Wayne High football coach.

As only a handful of teams opened their season with a week zero game, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge football squad is off to a 1-0 start following a road victory over Homer last week.

LCC finished 5-4 following a 60-26 loss to Cross County in the 2019 Class D1 playoff opening round. The Bears will have 31 players out but lost about half of their offense and defense as 10 players graduated from last year’s team. Coach Pat Arens is entering his fifth season leading LCC.
