WAYNE – A total of 14 teams were represented among the Wayne High Metteer Golf Invite on Thursday.
From the Wayne Country Club, WHS hosted their second home invite of the season.
Columbus Scotus pulled away from the field with a team score of 379, followed by Battle Creek in second with a 407, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge shot a 415 to finish third, just one stroke better than fourth-place O’Neill (416) and Boone Central rounded out the top five teams with a 427.
Other team scoring came from Pierce (sixth – 436), Hartington Cedar Catholic (seventh – 445), Columbus Lakeview (eighth – 446), Archbishop Bergan (ninth – 447), Schuyler (10th – 458), Norfolk (11th – 470) and South Sioux City (12th – 562) as Wayne High and Elkhorn Valley had individual golfers compete.
Cecilia Arndt of Scotus was the individual champion with a +15 (87) of the 63 golfers while Hannah Kitt of Columbus and Taylor Beierman of Boone Central both shot a +18 (90).
Wayne High’s top golfer was Riley Haschke in 17th place with a +31 (103). Joslyn Johnson placed 32nd (109) while Lindsay Niemann came in 48th place (121)
LCC golfers were led by a fifth-place finish from Sarah Karnes (+24 96). The remainder of the team finished all within a stroke of each other as Hope Swanson placed 25th and Delaney Hall took 27th (both with a 106) as Maddy Graham and Sidney Groene finished 28th and 29th respectively each with a 107.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next compete in the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invite on Saturday, September 25 starting at 9 a.m. from the Cedar View Country Club in Laurel. WHS will close out their regular season with the Mid State Conference golf meet in Crofton on Thursday, September 30 starting at 10 a.m.
