Wayne High Girls Track & Field Takes Runner-Up, Boys Also In Second During Blue Devil Invite

WAYNE – After being rescheduled area high school track and field teams competed in the Blue Devil Invite from Kern Track Thursday.

From the girls division Columbus Scotus was crowned champions with 169 points, followed by the host Wayne High in second with 125 points and Pierce took third with 102 points.

Other female team scores came from Boone Central/Newman Grove (fourth – 77), Columbus Lakeview (fifth – 35), Pierce JV (sixth – 24), Wakefield (seventh – 11) and Columbus Scotus JV (eighth – two).

Wayne’s top results came from Kylie Hammer with first place finishes in the long jump (16’ 8”), from the triple jump (36’ 5”), the 100 – meter dash (13.61) and the 400 – meter dash (1:04.71).

Gabi Meyer won the 800 – meter run (2:34.18), Frankie Klausen came in third (2:43.69) and Molly Hoskins finished eighth (3:00.96). Wayne’s 1600 – meter freshman spring medley came in second (5:17.18)

Also on the track the Blue Devil 4X800 – meter relay team placed first at 11:09.34 (Frankie Klausen, Hoskins, Sarah Greenwald, Meyer). The 4X100 – meter relay team placed second at 56.18 (Hailey Backer, Ashton Boyer, Sidney Biggerstaff, Erin O’Reilly). The 4X400 – meter relay team finished fourth at 4:37.64 (Jenna Trenhaile, Frankie Klausen, O’Reilly, Meyer).

Trenhaile came in second in the discus (126’), which broke her old school record of 125’ 4”. Trenhaile also finished sixth in the 400 – meter dash (1:12.16) as Greenwald came in eighth (1:14.48). Emily Armstrong took third in the shot put (35’ 5 ½”) followed in fourth by Trenhaile (33’ 3 ¾”).

Backer took second in the pole vault (7’ 6”) while Peyton French placed eighth (5’ 6”). Backer also placed fifth in the 200 – meter dash (30.66) and seventh in the 100 – meter dash (14.35).

O’Reilly placed fourth in the 300 – meter hurdles (53.74) and fifth in the 100 – meter hurdles (18.45) as Biggerstaff followed in sixth (18.69).

French came in fifth during the 3200 – meter run (15: 22.64) while Andi Belt crossed the 1600 – meter finish line in sixth (6:46.85).

Gabi Meyer tied for seventh in the high jump (4’ 6”).

 

For Wakefield, their 4X800 – meter relay team placed third in a time of 12:29.52 (Rachel Borg, Lindsey Al-Khafaji, Maria Gonzalez, Sahrai Luna). Borg placed sixth in the 800 – meter run (2:49.4),

Wakefield’s 1600 – meter freshman sprint medley took fourth (5:26.7).

 

In the boys division it was Pierce winning the meet with 150 points, while the host Wayne High came in second with 130 points and Columbus Scotus placed third with 108 points.

Other male team scores saw Columbus Lakeview (fourth – 54), Wakefield (fifth – 53), Boone Central/Newman Grove (sixth – 29) and Pierce JV (seventh – 19).

Wayne took the top two spots in the long jump from Mason Lee with the winning leap (19’ 3 ¼”) followed in second from Cody Rogers (19’ 2”) as Alex Echtenkamp placed fifth (18’ 3”).

Jack Evetovich won the high jump (6’ 2”), Collin Clausen placed third (5’ 10”) and Rogers took fourth (5 ‘8”). Kaden Kneifl won the shot put (44’ 2”) while also placing third in the discus (125’ 2”).

Rogers placed second in the triple jump (40’ 11 ½”) followed by Echtenkamp in third (39’ 2 ½”). The Wayne 1600 – meter sprint freshman medley came in second (4:18.81)

All three Blue Devil relays finished third. In the 4X800 – meter relay WHS finished in a time of 9:50 (Tyrus Eischeid, Brandon Wacker, Isaac Cliff, Reese Jaqua), 4X100 at 50.45 (Owen Frideres, Aaron Fleming, Israel Rodriguez, Mike Leatherdale) and 4X400 at 3:56.8 (Aaron Reynolds, Tristen Landanger, Eischeid, Rogers).

Alex Echtenkamp took fourth in the pole vault (11’ 0”), Cameron Muhs in sixth (9’ 6”) and Isaac Cliff tied for seventh (9’ 0”).

Reynolds finished second in the 400 – meter dash (53.77) and fourth in the 100 – meter dash (12.16). Eischeid placed fourth in the 800 – meter run (2:21.2) as Landanger came in fifth during the 400 – meter dash (58.32).

Leatherdale took fourth in the shot put (42’ 6”) as Stuart Hasemann came in eighth during the discus (108’ 4”).

Noah Lutt finished sixth in both the 110 – meter hurdles (19.48) and 300 – meter hurdles (48.58) as Wacker placed fourth in the 3200 – meter run (11:57.32) and sixth in the 1600 – meter run (5:16.22).

The Wayne High girls and boys track and field team will next be in action this Saturday, April 7 from the Wisner-Pilger Invite starting at 9 a.m.

 

For Wakefield, Solomon Peitz won the triple jump at 41’ 1 ½” followed by Nick Arenas in eighth (35’ 7 ½”). Sam Heitz took second in the 800 – meter run (2:17.61) followed by Solomon Peitz in third (2:17.97).

Wakefield saw their 4X100 – meter relay team come in second place at 49.23 (Dylon Harder, Justin Erb, Jack Heitz, Esgar Godinez) and 4X400 – meter relay team place second at 3:46.57 (Jack Heitz, Esgar Godinez, Dylon Harder, Justin Erb).

Esgar Godinez placed third in the 100 – meter dash (12.08) as the Wakefield 1600 – meter sprint freshman medley came in third (4:33.48). Dawson Samuelson took sixth in the 400 – meter dash (59.34) while Arenas placed seventh in the 300 – meter hurdles (49.46).

Alex Camarena took seventh in the discus (112’ 8”) as Dawson Samuelson placed seventh in the long jump (17’ 4”). Seth Neumberger finished eighth in the 110 – meter hurdles (21.35) while Couy Johnson also took eighth in the 1600 – meter run (5:46.9)

The Wakefield girls and boys track and field team will next be in action on Tuesday, April 10 during the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Invite starting at 10 a.m.
