Wayne High Girls Golf Competes In Battle Creek Invite

BATTLE CREEK – Following a weekend invite, the Wayne High girls golf team went back to work with another 18-hole outing.

From the Evergreen Hill Golf Course in Battle Creek, the Battle Creek Invite featured 10 varsity teams and two JV teams.

Norfolk Catholic won the invite with a 382 followed by the host Battle Creek with a 413 and Hartington Cedar Catholic took third with a 419. West Point-Beemer placed fourth with a 426, West Holt (fifth – 437), Wayne High (sixth – 507), Norfolk High (seventh – 576) and Clarkson/Leigh (eighth – 590) closed out team scoring. Crofton and O’Neill had varsity girls represented while Battle Creek JV and HCC JV were also on hand.

Individually, Anna Kassmeier of Norfolk Catholic shot 10 strokes batter than the runner-up finisher to win the 18-hole outing with an 80.

Hartington Cedar Catholic’s top golfer was Delayne Sudbeck placing 10th with a 103.

Wayne High’s top golfer was Natalie Bentjen with a 103 to place 11th. Other Blue Devil results came from Riley Haschke (30th – 133), Bailee Leise (33rd – 135), Cassidy Manz (35th – 136) and Jayden Calhoon (46th – 170).

The Wayne High girls golf team will next be in action during a home triangular on Thursday, September 19. WHS will host Hartington Cedar Catholic and Pierce from the Wayne Country Club with tee time set for 4 p.m.
