LINCOLN – Following a Friday afternoon defeat in the Class C1 semifinal round of the 2021 NSAA Boys State Basketball Tournament, Wayne High was back in action Saturday morning.
From Lincoln North Star High School, #7 WHS closed out the tourney with #4 Omaha Concordia.
Omaha Concordia jumped ahead by 15 at the break and went onto defeat WHS, 60-46. The Mustangs improved to 23-5 while WHS ended their season at 23-7.
Omaha Concordia took a 17-10 lead in the opening quarter before extending their lead in the second thanks to a 13-5 scoring run. The Mustangs led 30-15 at the break. Wayne High started to mount a comeback in the third, 16-11 before Omaha Concordia won the fourth, 19-15. Final again favored Omaha Concordia, 60-46.
Junior Brandon Bartos recorded a team-high 13 points for Wayne High followed by fellow junior Tanner Walling with eight points and sophomore Daniel Judd poured in seven points. Other scoring came from senior Treyton Blecke with four points; seniors Colton Vovos and Jacob Kneifl while sophomores Alex Phelps and Carter Junck all scored three points as senior Nolan Hunke finished with two points.
WHS shot 10-15 from the foul line.
Omaha Concordia leaders were Zac Kulus with 15 points and Karsten Mathsen with 11 points.
The Mustangs finished 10-14 from the foul line.
