Wayne High Baseball Looking To Build Momentum Leading Into Districts Thursday

WAYNE – Monday’s regular season finale for the Wayne High baseball team has been canceled as the Blue Devils were recently able to compete in their eighth and final home game of the year.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, WHS closed out their home schedule Saturday afternoon hosting Platte Valley (Yutan/Mead).

Wayne High used a three-run sixth inning to pull away from Platte Valley to win 6-1. WHS improved to 11-7 (4-4 at home) while Platte Valley fell to 10-11.

Platte Valley scored a run in the top of the second as Wayne High answered with two runs a half of an inning later. Following two scoreless innings, WHS added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win 6-1.

James Dorcey recorded three of the 10 hits for Wayne with a RBI while Victor Kniesche singled, doubled and scored for Wayne. Toby Braun singled, scored twice and drove in a run; Kaleb Moormeier singled, scored and drove in two runs; Jacob Kneifl singled and drove in two runs; Max Miller singled and scored; Jaxon Mrsny singled as Devin Anderson scored.

Brooks Kneifl (105 pitches) picked up the complete game win allowing one run off three hits while striking out nine batters and walking two.

Wayne High was scheduled to close out their regular season visiting Arlington on Monday, but the game has since been canceled.

The Wayne High baseball team will open district competition during the B-1 Tournament in Hastings on Thursday, May 6. #3 WHS will face #6 Douglas County West (2-15) at 5 p.m. Pregame show coverage on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com is set for 4:40 p.m.
