SEWARD – With a pair of road bowling duals and a rescheduled home dual on the schedule this week prior to district competition next week, the Wayne High bowling program competed in a weekend road dual.
From Seward Bowl in Seward, WHS took part in a JV boys, varsity boys and varsity girls bowling dual Saturday.
Varsity results favored the Seward girls over Wayne, 12-10 in the overall match while the Seward boys won 20-1.
The Blue Devil girls ran into a red-hot home team in game one. The host Seward got off to a hot start and Wayne was unable to keep up in the first game. Seward won game one with a pin total 867-761. Jersi Jensen recorded Wayne’s lone win with a 153-152 victory. Other scorers for Wayne were Jamie Janke (160), Andi Belt (158), Natalie Bentjen (152) and Brianna Nissen/Catherine Rutenbeck (138). Game two found the Blue Devils winning all the individual matches and taking the pin total count 852-640. Scoring for Wayne was Andi Belt (198), Natalie Bentjen (182), Brianna Nissen/Catherine Rutenbeck (167), Jamie Janke (157) and Jersi Jensen (148). After the individual matches Wayne led Seward, 9-7 leaving it all up to the Baker style matches.
Seward came out well again in those matches and won the games 165-136 and 198-134 to again win the overall match 12-10.
The Blue Devil boys bowling team battled to find their groove Saturday but did bowl well. The host team however had it rolling on Saturday. In game one, Seward started hot and continued it all game where four of their five bowlers bowled over 200 and won the match with a 1066-843 pin total. Peyton Riesberg (164) was the only Wayne bowler to win an individual match. Other scorers for Wayne were Brogan Foote (190), Calvin Starzl (178), James Dorcey (159) and Tanner Sievers (152). Game two found the home team continuing their hot play winning all the individual matches and the pin total 952-790. Scorers for Wayne in game two were Brogan Foote (206), Tanner Sievers (171), Calvin Starzl (162), Peyton Riesberg (139) and Shayne Geidner / Carter Fernau (112). Seward went on to win the overall match 20-1.
In JV action, the Wayne boys were finally able to bowl away from Wayne. No match play totals were kept but scoring for Wayne were Jacob Anderson (170 & 148), Lance Muhs (175 & 121), Koby Nelson / Coby Dickes (142 & 130), Carter Hasemann (144 & 123) as well as Sean Aschoff / Chase Adams (164 & 111).
Wayne High is scheduled to visit both Howells-Dodge in Dodge on Tuesday, January 26 and Thurston-Cuming in Pender on Thursday, January 28 before hosting Howells-Dodge on Friday, January 29 during a rescheduled dual. District bowling is slated for Wednesday, February 3.
The Wayne girls will join Hartington-Newcastle, Plainview, Thurston-Cuming and Norfolk Catholic during the District 4 Bowling Meet hosted by the Knights from Kings Lanes at 9 a.m.
