Wayne Girls Place Five In Double-Figures During Road Win, Blue Devil Boys Allow 41 Points But Fall At LV/SS

HOOPER – With a pair of weekend contests slated to be on the road and at home in a few days, the Wayne High girls and boys basketball teams took to the road for a week-night showdown.

From Logan View Jr/Sr high school, the Blue Devils visit Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.

In the girls contest, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder stayed close early before Wayne won the opening quarter 20-12. WHS then took control of the second quarter 22-4 to lead 42-16 at the break. Wayne High used a 26-10 third and 10-4 fourth to win the game 78-30. The Blue Devils secured their first win on the season as both teams are now 1-2.

All five starters hit double figures led by Kendall Dorey with 17 points and Emily Longe scoring 16 points. Brooklyn Kruse finished with 14 points, Rubie Klausen added 13 points and Frankie Klausen scored all her 12 points in the third quarter. WHS shot 2-5 from the foul line.

Valerie Uehling paced LV/SS with eight points. The Raiders shot 7-8 from the charity stripe.

 

From the boys game, it was a back-and-forth defensive slugfest with Logan View/Scribner-Snyder leading 15-13 after the opening quarter and used a 9-6 second quarter to lead 24-19 at the break. After the Blue Devils took a one-point lead scoring six straight points, LV/SS answered with seven points in the quarter while Wayne outscored the Raiders 13-10 in the fourth. Final saw, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder win 41-38 to improve to 3-0 as Wayne High fell to 0-3.

Alex Phelps and Cody Rogers both scored eight points while Tanner Walling and Shea Sweetland tallied seven points each. WHS shot 4-6 from the foul line.

The Raiders had two double figure scorers from Connor Larson with 17 points (13 of 17 second half points for team) and Riley Hoetfelker added 10 points. LV/SS finished 7-11 from the free throw line.

The Wayne High girls and boys will next visit Wahoo on Friday, December 13 before hosting Columbus Lakeview on Saturday, December 14. The Wayne High 2019 state softball team will be recognized Saturday during the WHS vs. Lakeview games. The Booster Club will be honoring the team as well as the banner being raised in the gym.
