WAYNE – With another weekend golf outing scheduled for this weekend, the Wayne High girls golf team took to their home course for the second time in 2020.
From the Wayne Country Club, 15 teams saw individuals or complete teams take part in the Wayne Metter Invite Thursday.
For Wayne High, Natalie Bentjen shot a 97 to place ninth while teammate Riley Haschke came in 11th with a 100.
Battle Creek won the 18-hole course with a 393 just five strokes ahead of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge placing second with a 398. Boone Central and Columbus Scotus both shot a 416 as Pierce rounded out the top five teams with a 424.
Hartington Cedar Catholic took sixth (427), O’Neill finished seventh (436), Columbus Lakeview came in eighth (437), Norfolk Catholic placed ninth (462) and Archbishop Bergan closed out the top 10 (468). Norfolk (11th – 474), Schuyler (12th – 486) and South Sioux City (13th – 526) were other complete teams while Elkhorn Valley and Wayne saw individual golfers take to the course.
Abby Brodersen of Boone Central finished a top the individual standings with her 79 followed by Cecilia Arndt of Scotus in runner-up with an 85. LCC saw two golfers finish in the top 10 being Jadyn Kinkaid in fourth with a 91 and Sarah Karnes took seventh with a 96. Hartington Cedar Catholic was led by Delayne Sudbeck in sixth-place with a 95.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next compete in the LCC Invite on Saturday, September 26 starting at 9 a.m. The Mid State Conference girls golf invite will be hosted by Battle Creek next Thursday before districts are set for October 1 in Blair.
