Wayne Girls Finish With Three Inside Top 10, Zavala Leads Blue Devils Boys With Runner-Up Medal; WHS Girls Place Third, Boys Sixth At Conference

PIERCE – After having their final regular season race canceled due to weather, the Wayne High girls and boys cross country team moved onto the conference competition.

From the Pierce Community Golf Course, six girls and seven boys Mid State Conference teams were in action Thursday late afternoon.

The Wayne High girls placed third with 36 points while the Blue Devil boys finished sixth with 77 points.

In the girls division, Pierce won the conference team race with 23 points, followed by Crofton with 35 points, Wayne took third with 36 points, Battle Creek placed fourth with 68 points and O’Neill rounded out the top five teams (78). Boone Central was the final girl’s team with 101 points.

Individually, Jordyn Arens of Crofton won the race in a time of 19:13 out of the 43 runners.

The Wayne High girls were led by a trio of top ten finishes from freshmen Kyla Krusemark (fourth – 20:59) and Jala Krusemark (eighth – 21:31) while junior Laura Hasemann took 10th (21:53).

Other Blue Devil results came from freshman Norah Armstrong (17th – 23:25); freshman Olivia Hanson (18th – 23:33); sophomore Frantzdie Barner (19th – 23:41); freshman Yama Kantai (20th – 23:42); sophomore Raegan Maas (35th – 28:20) and sophomore Maya Spahr (42nd – 32:16).

Mid State Conference Cross Country results 10-7-21

From the boys division, Norfolk Catholic won the conference team race with 21 points, followed by Pierce with 43 points, Battle Creek took third with 59 points, O’Neill placed fourth with 69 points and Boone Central rounded out the top five teams (77). Wayne High also had 77 points to finish sixth in the tie breaker while Crofton closed out the boys teams with 121 points.

Individually, Norfolk Catholic’s Ben Hammond won the race in a time of 17:25.79 out of 82 runners, just under six seconds ahead of Wayne High’s Jesus Zavala (17:31.51).

Following Zavala’s runner-up finish, sophomore Mason Ley took 23rd (19:19) and senior Ethan Wibben finished 24th (19:22).

Other Blue Devil results came from sophomore Alex Frank (32nd – 20:01); junior Ethan McCraney (33rd – 20:02); sophomore Adrian Klinetobe (34th – 20:16); junior Easton Blecke (38th – 20:29); sophomore Parker Kesting (39th – 20:31); freshman Kasen York (41st – 20:34); junior Bradyn McCorkindale (71st – 23:35); freshman Ty Zach (72nd – 20:36) and senior Carter Hasemann (75th – 24:23).

Wayne High will return to the Pierce Community Golf Course next Thursday, October 14 for the C-3 District race.
