WAYNE – After having their home opener postponed over the weekend, the Wayne High girls and boys basketball teams began their home schedule Tuesday evening with a non-conference, Class C1 showdown.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr high school gymnasium, WHS entertained Logan View/Scribner-Snyder.
In the girls contest, Wayne High jumped out front with a 25-8 first quarter. WHS then outscored the Raiders 14-9 to lead 39-17 at the break. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder did win the third quarter (16-14), but the Blue Devils won the fourth (19-10) and the game at 72-43. Wayne improves to 1-1 as LV/SS fell to 0-2.
Ashton Boyer caught fire early and finished with 22 points as Gabi Meyer followed with 15 points. Rubie Klausen tacked on nine points and four rebounds, Sidney Biggerstaff (five rebounds) and Frankie Klausen both tallied seven points, Sarah Greenwald scored six points, Tori Kniesche (four points/five rebounds) and Annie Kniesche (two points) rounded out the WHS scoring.

From the boys game, both teams had a rough time finding the bottom of the net with a 3-3 tie after a quarter of play. Then, in the second quarter LV/SS outscored WHS 21-16 to lead 24-19 at the break. The Raiders held off a late run of Wayne after winning the third quarter (10-4) as Wayne High tallied an 18-10 fourth. Final favored Logan View/Scribner-Snyder for the 44-41 win to now sit 2-0 as Wayne fell to 1-1.
Shea Sweetland posted a team-high 11 points for Wayne High. Tyrus Eischeid tallied eight points and nine rebounds, followed by five points each from Kallan Herman and Cody Rogers (nine boards). Marcus Fertig scored four points, three each from Josh Lutt and Aaron Reynolds and two points from Trevor DeBoer.
Logan View/Scribner-Snyder was led by Trystain Rosebery with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
