Wayne Girls, Boys Bowling Takes Care Of Business On Home Lanes, Friday Dual Postponed

WAYNE – With back-to-back home outings on the Wayne High bowling schedule entering the weekend, the Blue Devils took to their home lanes Thursday evening.

From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, WHS welcomed in Howells-Dodge.

The Wayne girls won 20-1 while the Blue Devil boys also defeated Howells-Dodge, 14-7.

In the girls division, all five bowlers for the host Blue Devils won matches in game one led by Brianna Nissen (179), Jersi Jensen (172), Jamie Janke (166), Riley Haschke (156) and Catherine Rutenbeck (142). Team total went to Wayne with a 815-446 pin fall.

Game two found the host team continuing their hot play. Wayne went on to win game two with a 834-495 pin fall total. Winning individual matches for the Blue Devils were Jamie Janke (198), Jersi Jensen (183), Catherine Rutenbeck (171) and Brianna Nissen/Lindsay Niemann (161). Riley Haschke/Nina Hammer (121) also bowled in game two.

The Baker game favored Wayne High staying hot and defeated the visitors 202-114. Again, Wayne went on to win the night’s match 20-1.

During the boys division, Wayne found their groove early.

Game one found the two teams battling back and forth throughout the game. A strong ninth and tenth game proved to be the deciding factor though. Big final frames by Brooks Kneifl (164) and Brogan Foote (168) won their individual matches and along with big games from Calvin Starzl (225) and Shayne Geidner (220) pushed the home team to a 937-821 and a 7-1 lead. James Dorcey also contributed to game one with a 160.

In game two, Wayne got going early and continued their hot play all game. Individual match winners in game two were Calvin Starzl (236), Brogan Foote (235), Brooks Kneifl (194) and Shayne Geidner/Carter Hasemann (185). Other scorers were James Dorcey/Jacob Anderson (196). Wayne went on to win game two 1046-840.

The team score of 1046 is a new individual game school record.

Howells-Dodge did go on to win the Baker game 157-147 as the Blue Devils went on to win the overall match 14-7.

The Wayne High JV bowlers were also in action Thursday night. Leading the way on the girls side for the JV was Leanne Westphal with a three game total of 369 followed by Joslyn Johnson (365) and Madilyn Janke (267). On the boys side, Jaden Dramse led the way with a three game total of 438 followed by Jamison Meyer (389), Ethan Wibben (380), Coby Dickes (377), Carlyle Young (348) and Chase Adams (305).

Head Wayne bowling coach Josh Johnson said, “I was really happy with the week of practice we had. The kids buckled down and worked hard and it really showed tonight. Great bowling by a lot of kids tonight.”

The Wayne High bowling program was scheduled to be back at Wildcat Lanes in Wayne on Friday hosting Boone Central starting at 4:30 p.m. pending weather. Friday’s bowling dual with Boone Central High School has been postponed. The makeup date is still TBD.
