Wayne Girls Bounce Back Friday Night, Blue Devils Boys Improve To 6-0

WAYNE – Following a Friday night home doubleheader, the Wayne High girls and boys basketball teams were back on the home court one day later.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, the Blue Devils welcomed in Mid State Conference foe O’Neill Saturday night.

The Wayne girls defeated O’Neill, 39-26 while the Blue Devil boys won 47-35 over the Eagles.

The Wayne girls improved to 3-3 as O’Neill fell to 2-3 while the Wayne boys are now 6-0 as the Eagles fell to 3-1.

During the girls game, Wayne jumped ahead with a 10-3 first quarter and 13-3 second to go up 23-6 at the break. In the second half, Wayne added to their lead thanks to an 11-5 third as O’Neill won the fourth quarter, 15-5. Final favored Wayne High, 39-26.

Wayne High leaders were Brooklyn Kruse with 15 points as Mady Sievers added 10 points. Other scoring came from Rubie Klausen with five points, Mia Nelsen had four points, Kiara Krusemark finished with three points as Frantzdie Barner tallied two points.

O’Neill was led in scoring from Kierston Welke with six points.

 

In the boys contest, Wayne led early thanks to a 14-11 first and 9-4 second to lead 23-15 at the break. Wayne High added to their lead with a 17-7 third as O’Neill won the fourth, 13-7. Final favored Wayne High 47-35.

Wayne High leaders were Sedjro Agoumba with 11 points followed by Daniel Judd with 10 points. Other scoring came from Alex Phelps with six points, Tanner Walling had five points, Camron Weaselhead finished with four points, Carter Junck and Colson Nelsen both scored three points as Brandon Bartos tallied two points.

O’Neill’s top performer came from Landon Classen with 18 points.

Wayne High will next visit Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Tuesday, December 21 (game carried on KTCH, 5:45 pregame). O’Neill will be off also until Tuesday when the Eagles host Crofton.
